Feasibility Studies Project managers must analyze numerous transportation scenarios influenced by many variables to make proper cost-effective decisions that meet their mission requirements. Downey Engineering Corporation has supported several feasibility studies consisting of cargo transportation methods impacted by numerous variables including cargo mix, production rates, manning and maintenance requirements, weather conditions and their associated cost. Using spreadsheet comparisons and the results of simulation software, an economic solution is presented to the client with transportation alternatives and recommendations leading to the conceptual design. Clients using this capability include Freeport Sulphur Company, Oceaneering Production Systems, and PT Freeport Indonesia.
Concept Design - Building on the recommendations of the feasibility study, Downey Engineering Corporation has entered into the conceptual design phase of several vessels. Based on the client’s specific mission requirements, preliminary engineering calculations derive the principal dimensions, a lightship weight and powering estimates in order to provide a baseline vessel suitable for proceeding to contract design. Preliminary drawings are developed and include the vessel’s midship section and general arrangement.
